The Truth and Reconciliation Project was created to encourage artists from both Indigenous and Settler backgrounds to investigate local perspectives on the very thorny national issue of Truth and Reconciliation. The Art Gallery of Bancroft and Indigenous Tourism Ontario saw the value in working locally to achieve recognition of larger objectives. This project is the very beginning of a long conversation that is necessary for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians to begin to align our troubling history so that we all may have a better future. We must recognize that we have very different starting points because of colonization, and that there is much work and change ahead of us.
